BIO

Originally from Canada, I moved to Australia 9 years ago. I started learning photography (informally) over 20 years ago – it was a dream of mine to exhibit and sell. But stuff happens in life, and for various reasons I sold my camera and my precious Contax lenses and gave it up. I have always regretted that. Over the last couple of years I’ve revitalised my interest, bought new equipment, and started shooting again.

I am highly influenced by my emotions, with much of my work symbolizing my solitary life and nature. I’m still exploring and searching for a “style” to call my own, and that is a never-ending process. As I live and experience new things, as I learn, I change – and my work changes with me. However my love of the night, wonder at nature, and search for that “perfect moment” will never leave me.

Comments on my work show this exploration:
“Very gritty… dark and dirty” / “Weird – and cool” (from my Gritty City series)
“Head scratchingly hard to fathom” (Abstract work)
“Wonderful composition & tones” / “beautiful depth, magnificent colors and fine detail” (Night photography)

I shoot nature and landscapes often during the day, and love exploring our society through street photography. But it is at night that the city really comes alive for me. The lights, sounds, hustle and bustle of nightlife, pockets of hidden quiet places – this is what Sydney is to me – vibrant, alive, powerful, mysterious, both cautious and daring at the same time. And as the city comes alive, I do as well, and I feel I am most in my element – the time and place that I am meant to be.

“I never know in advance what I will photograph, ... I go out into the world and hope I will come across something that imperatively interests me. I am addicted to the found object. I have no doubt that I will continue to make photographs till my last breath.”
- Ansel Adams
