Stillife with Bowie & Pig by deepbluwater

Currently unavailable for purchase

This was shot around 1981 with my Fujica 35mm, which I loved though it was frequent visitor to the repair shop. I remember the afternoon light in that apartment being amazing and I’m glad to have held on to a few images from that time.

I was particularly taken with this image of David Bowie, one of my all-time favorite artists, as it depicted him such an unusually direct and agrarian manner, which had been more than a little unusual up until that point in his career.

The Bowie image is from a multi-page newsprint handout given at the March 29, 1978 opening of his Low/Heroes World Tour, which I attended in San Diego. After some research to get this timeline somewhat in order, I see that “Bowie w/Pig” is from his 1978 film “Just a Gigolo” co-starring Sydne Rome, Kim Novak & Marlene Dietrich in her last film appearance. The surrounds are my sunny kitchen at the time. Original image scanned with a few touch-ups in iPhoto.

In addition to the low res, I do not have the information to credit Bowie’s Berlin photographer, where much of the movie was filmed, so will not post the image for sale.

Thank you very much for visiting!
