Built in 1946, The Ken Cinema opened as the first theatre to bring quality foreign films to San Diego and continues to offer a wide variety of films, from independent fare to foreign language cinema to restored classics. I lived a short walk from the theatre for a time while in college and got to know The Ken very well. The Ken Cinema is San Diego’s last single screen theatre.
many thanks, Kriss!! while there this week I also had to dine at the locally famous “Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant, since 1969…” across the street, just to get the whole experience :)))
…love these old cinema signs, so deco and can get you so excited about going to the movies!
exactly! I was so excited to see the film & go to that part of town because of the theatre! I’d planned on photographing 2-3 obscure theatre marquees while away for Easter weekend. -the schedule didn’t work out for it so just had to get to this part of SD to make up for it! funny how that works… thanks so very much for your comments Paul!!!
oh i love this, I would love to go to this theatre!
thank you, and yes! this theatre is as fun & interesting as it looks! & the neighborhood is great too. Thanks so much for coming by Kelly…
