this one, gun control is hitting your target, is by request of a nice elderly gentleman i met at lunch the other day.
i don’t think guns are to be feared any more than any other tool, cars for instance. they need to be treated with respect but the biggest problem, just as with cars, is the peson behind it not the tool itself. my family has fought in every one of america’s wars since before it was america and every generation has learned to respect and use guns also. i was taught gun saftey and respect from the earliest i can remember. rather than having guns treated as bogeymen and fear causing objects, attitudes fostered in tv and movies with the ridiculous things they do in them – like a shotgun blowing a guy through a wall, shotgun shot usually will not even penetrate a wall or car window nor does it ricochet which is why police use it and not becuase it is the most powerful weapon – i believe the best course would be to educate our kids at the earliest age as to the truth of what any dangerous weapon or tool is, just as we teach themn to look for cars in the street when crossing, and why they need to respect it and that it doesn’t make them “cool” or “dangerous” to have or use one. end of editorial
