Blooming Trees – 13 November 2009
Eucalyptus cladocalyx nana is a dwarf form of the large Eucalyptus cladocalyx. The dwarf form will reach a height of eight metres and will become an attractive small tree with a sculptured shape. Branching starts about one third of tree height.
Bark is smooth, mottled and grey to bluish grey. During late summer and autumn the bark is shed in large patches. The new bark is yellowish to pale brown.
The leaves are lanceolate, shining, dark green above and paler below. The veins are prominent.
Buds are in thick clusters of 7-16. Flowers are white.1.5 centimetres across, profuse and appear from late summer to autumn. The flowers are followed by barrel-shaped gum nuts that are prominently ribbed.
Eucalyptus cladocalyx nana is an attractive small tree that is small enough to be accommodated in most suburban gardens. Growth habit, foliage and flowers are all attractive features.
The Dwarf Sugar Gum occurs on the Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island, South Australia."

I dont know why but this looks almost Christmassy!! Beautiful detail in this Elaine xx
Perhaps the flowers remind you of snowflakes. This little tree is only about 3ft high at the moment, but has been blooming profusely each year.

Wow, I’ve never seen these before, they are lovely. That card looks absolutely gorgeous. Awesome photo :-)
Thanks for the fine compliment Kymie. There are heaps of these white flowering gums around here, but of the traditional tall variety. They flower in March and attract all those horrible marsh flies.

beautiful detail, and I agree with Sue…… has a real “christmas” feel to it….
Thanks Wendy. Perhaps I’ll try and fix a ‘Merry Christmas’ in there somewhere.

I reckon they would have to be one of my favorite flowering plants, the gums. Great shot Elaine!
Thanks Adrian. We have 3 of these hybrids and they are all gorgeous, but although this one is only about 2ft at the moment, it’s a mass of flowers when it blooms.
