Batten down the Hatches

Batten down the hatches, lads
Seal ’em up real tight
‘Cause now the storm’s a’comin
We’re in for a helluva night

Jasper, grab the helm, man
Pinto, stow the kegs
Billy, cut your whining, dear
It’s time to test your legs

Cook, now you get ready
And feast us up a dish
To sop away the earthly fears
And bring in one last wish

Ok boys, now settle down
Don’t you make me shout
I’m gonna give you the way of it
So hear this old man out

The Sea’s a cruel mistress, lads
The depths are black and deep
But the way down is quick, chums
While she lulls you to your sleep

Many worse ways to go, boys
So many ways to die
Some are long and fearsome
Others too quick for ‘byes

I’ve lived a goodly while, now
I’ve seen many a thing
Had my share of riches, lads
And had my share of rings

Man’s a fickle creature, see
With a heart much like these climes
Strong and steady on balmy days
Yet wavering in troubled times

So when you find that treasure, men
That chest of coin and gold
Forget what you may have had
And keep a brawny hold

So remember what I tell you
‘Cause we’re not built to stay
Cast aside what could have been
And live life for today
