Bitter night…and Dark, Mother of Fears; thy cloying sway enraptures me
Succulently sweet a lover’s grasp, made stealthily, without pity nor remorse
To suffocate and repress the radiant, thine employ is yet fairly done
I call for thy cloak now, to shroud mine eyes from earthly aghasts
Let Light perish, as Decency hath perished – let me evermore languish in your numbing blindness…

Let Light perish, as Decency hath perished – let me evermore languish in your numbing blindness…No, Mark, we must go on.
But strange how your haunting and wonderful words reminded me of Benigni’s monologue in “La Tigre e la neve (The tiger and the snow)” when he writes about the effect that Vittoria’s death would have on him?
The monologue goes something like this (forgive me, my Italian is not that great): “If she dies, they can close this whole show of a world, they can cart it off, unscrew the stars, roll up the sky and put it on a truck! They can turn off this sunlight I love so much. For, you know why I love it so much? Because I love her when the sun shines on her. They can take everything away, these carpets, columns, houses, sand, wind, frogs, ripe watermelons, hail, seven in the evening, May, June, July, basil, bees, the sea, courgettes…courgettes!..”
It’s what I love about writing: like, how different pieces seem to come together and connect in my mind. In some crazy way, the are different and yet, the same.
But, hey, I’m crazy!

That’s a wonderful piece of work, which I haven’t read before, John.
I suppose my little rambling up there is more about being tired. Tired in many ways. Unfortunately, I go through rapid peaks and troughs…

Mark, this is fantastic. I really enjoyed the language and feel of it. Sorry it took insomnia to produce (but it was worth it for the rest of us lol)
