I’ve been very busy working, and so have not uploaded any photos for a long time. I feel a little guilty, so here is batch of photos of the Antipodes Festival in Melbourne. I was booked to shoot the festival, and had a great time doing it.
Lots of photos – feel free to skim through them…
Cheers

Mark, Enjoyed these images….. As the appointed photographer are you required to obtain “releases” for the images of specific people (other than the active participants)?

Thanks, Jim.
No – the area is a public space, including the stage work :)

Great collection Mark.
I particularly like the shot of John Brumby, the girl in the red tee-shirt curled up in her fathers arms and the 3rd last with the girl dancing above the crowd.
I didn’t know about this festival, will have to remember for next year.
Mark German:
Thanks, mate. This collection was one quickly thrown together. I might also point out that the shoot was a little different to what I would normally do at a festival, since it had a brief attached :)

wow, very impressive images mark, excellent body of work.
i really love the dude with the long moustache and the movement/dancing ones toward the end.
it reminded me of when i was a kid and was forced to wear those crazy outfits and do that dancing, just quietly i always enjoyed the dancing part! hehe
very varied, and you captured a little bit of everything!
loved it! ;-) xox
Mark German:
Thank you :)
Yep – I thought I’d do a little artsy creative shots, rather than continuous recording of the dances. I have many more in that style, with slow shutter speed.

Hey Mark. Some very impressive images.
Love image (69) where the shot is framed by the dancer’s costume and you can see some other dancers in the background. So much detail in the fore-ground costume but you have to relate to it by examining what is happening in the background.
Also love the guy with the mustache and the carpets in the background (29). Don’t know whether the carpets are in context but it really seems as if they are.
Another of the dancing ones (76) as it gives a feeling of pace and movement. The others that follow it do as well, but I think the black and white removes the distraction of colour and allows you to focus on the movement.
Also love (80) – you get a real sense for how many people are there, but a little girl can still stand out from the crowd.
Where all of these taken with natural light (i.e no flash?)
Well done!
Mark German:
Hey Lisa :)
The carpets kinda are in context – the gentleman is/was wearing traditional Greek costume, and the carpets are a Greek product (part of the brief).
Yes, I also like most of the b&w versions of the movement photos, for the same reason – however, some of them (maybe not shown) look nice with the saturated red swirls.
Most of the candid portraiture shots are natural light, however all stage work and most wide shots are with additional fill-flash.

fabulous work you do;

Thanks, mate :)

Hi Mark – just went through the link….was like a mini-movie! You’ve captured so much here…and, as always, your eye for expression is as keen as ever!
Always nice to see a mlticultural city such as melbourne, alive with activity and celebrating in this way.
I liked the pics of the little boy with the green balloon, and the little girl getting ‘saddled’ for a fun jump…..the Glendi singer’s shots were excellent too….as were the ones of the traditional men in costumes….great expressions on those faces! There was one of a little girl with her chin resting on the edge of a table that I thought was so pensive…she really was in another world…..really enjoyed this tour of the Antipodes festival Mark – thanks for sharing it with us.

Well Marcus it looks like you had a great time as well as producing a lot of great photography.
A terrific collection of concert ‘n’ street chock full of gems – especially some of the kid shots.
Wonderfully clear, crisp images with wondefully natural colour and in most a bokeh to salivate over.
Most enjoyable viewing.
GB and Happy Easter.

Mark German:
Thanks, mate – same to you and your loved ones :)
