What diverse paths our lives lead.
This scene of two women – one with a mental ailment, speaking to the passing vehicles, directing them – the other, oblivious, reading a text message, captured my attention and left me meditating on paths we choose, and the ones that are beyond our choice.

Lois Romer
This is a great capture and great story.
Lorraine Creagh
So much in this. The poster, the refections in the window, the gazing into …well somewhere and the concentrated look…
Superb once again Mark =)
Kitsmumma
The woman directing the traffic has such harrowing eyes and sad face. Makes you wonder what is going through her mind. This is very strong, thought provoking, brilliantly executed work.
Carisma
Great natural shot and expressions! So much more impact in B&W!!!
Lisa Jewell
I can’t escape your description, for it leads me to see this image in such a way, other than just optic….
I’ve still goosebumps, wonderful work…...................
Christina Martin
She does look a little mental LOL! Love this Great capture…
Greg Halliday
Good capture. A bi of a comment on modern society as well, two humans wihtin arms reach and one is using the mobel to text someone else…
Greg Halliday
Maybe she’s calling for backup due to the phsyco woman in front of her??
Suzanne German
the expression on that woman’s hand mark!.....what a character! a real story behind a story in this one!
Mark German
It is hard to see at this size – but the woman’s other hand is almost in a supplication pose.
Lance Leopold
Yes,i guess we are what we don’t see,our minds, and the rest is really window dressing,a top capture and observation,Mark!!!!
Brad Sumner GLP

Nice story to go with the photo. Life is so complicated and cameras tell us their own story.

For me, the ‘hello’ in the background really add to the story. This is geat work.
Andrew Bosman
A fine insight into life in general Mark. As a society we too often ignore mental illness.
A fine piece of photography.

I love it how you’ve frozen this moment Mark and a whole narrative and meditation springs from it.
fabricedeloor
super funny and incredibly nice!!
Anthony Pierce
Isn’t amazing how modern technology makes us oblivious to everything around us?!
Rhana Griffin
...................sigh. To me this shows your sensitivity to the world we live in, and the people who inhabit it. Freaking sensational Mark.
Deborah Parkin
this is incredibly moving and you have sensitively captured the indifference (and sometime fear of what we don’t understand) that is out there. What does it for me is the lady who is directing the traffic, it’s her eyes – we barely see them but they tell most of the story. Beautiful work Mark.
Simon Mears
it really is in the eyes. i’m not gonna be hypocritical here, if that was me next to her, i’d be on the phone too.. great capture.
Von McKnelly
One of the best street shots ever. It’s as if it where set up (staged) or part of a movie scene. The story has a great emotional impact on the state of our society.
P.S. Killer new avatar Mark.
melissa spalding

Exceptional capture!

this is a really interesting shot, it reminds me of “the diner” by sculpture artist george segal, something about the stilness of the people.
maka1967
