Great exposure, nice to see the detail in the blacks, (as seen in the large version). What makes it for me though are the complimentary tones of the subject and wonderful bg, and composition. Simple, yet so effective.

Compression does play havoc, even more so with contrasty images I find, it tends to accentuate sharpening halos as well if present. Viewing this image as the larger version though, it is quite obviously very sharp.
