In the sunshine and laughter I rose my head high
proudly smiling and reaching to the sky
anchored to the grate of a vendor’s van
finally transferred to a sweaty greedy hand
I want to hold it no i will hold it i will
I held my breath waiting patiently until
with an screech of annoyance that hand lets me fly
free as a bird up into the sky
I rise and rise never to return
the wind sends me off without a concern
all the rest of the day I fly where I will
over city and bay field and hill
til suddenly my play is cut short
no longer going up like I thought I ought
the cool evening breeze brings me gently down
I am for a park in the centre of town
and there in a tree my ribbon is snagged
and slowly I rest my life has now sagged
and as i deflate I know I shan’t fly again
but I am so grateful that there wasn’t any rain!

You’ve inspired me to go get that kite stuck up a gum tree for the last 8 months! I see it every time I drive up to the winery and feel a little sad. I wonder if there was a kid with tears in their eyes at some stage.

Sometime in it’s life..it made someone happy :)

Mark, this is sublime yet so powerful. I’ll bet so many of us from time to time in our lives feel just like this lonely balloon swing from the tree of this life… deflated, forgotten. Great photo/title/art!
