Built by G. Higgs from Nassau for Glen Stewart in 1945 the Stewart Mansion "was marvelous—something out of the ordinary that had never been built here. It had arches and drag molding, and instead of tile floors it had floors of limestone cut on the island of Eleuthera.

Legend has it that Mr. Stewart left for emergency medical tests and never returned. The story goes on to say that the table was sumptuously set with dinner when the entire family vanished. Echoes of the Marie Celeste.

I like how you framed this! Makes me want to go see what lays beyond those arches!

  • Thank you – glad you like it. When I first saw this I had the “normal” reaction one has when seeing a window but then….it struck me that the window could also be a framed picture hanging on the wall. Not sure that anyone else has recognized this though… The Stewart Mansion is filled with great photo opportunities. The architecture is grand, the ruin is clean (not dangerous to walk in around and on) and the massive trees that have taken residence add to the color, texture and overall weirdness of the scene. Is it any wonder that the location is used for all sorts of parties and as a location for weddings!
