Deb, this is wonderful. You were blessed with great weather and even better orcas. I have not yet been to Newfoundland for whales or general sightseeing. Can you recommend some places that are known for whale watching as well as the best time of the summer (or Spring or Fall for that matter) to maximize chances of encounters? Cheers, Gina
Hi Gina, The best time to come to Newfoundland for the whales is in July. Usually the whales begin to arrive in June and may still be there in September. There are lots of places around the island to view these amazing creatures. the birds arrive a bit earlier, in May. Its an amazing place and I if you EVER get the chance to go, do, you will not be disappointed. All the best to you…BTW, love your whale photos..Deb
Wonderful photo (and no fog)!!
Yep one of those rare days there..
Hi Deb, Newfoundland sounds like a great place to spend a bit of time taking photos… Do you need a boat for shots like this or are the whales so close to the shores? Great capture!
Newfoundland is a magical place. This photo was taken from a boat, but some whales do get very close to the shore. Thanks for your kind comments..;-)
Wonderful capture. I went to St.Anthony in Newfoundland as a medical student many years ago and worked with the Grenfell Mission then on up to North west River in the Labrador. It was break up at the time – i had a wonderful experience there, but it was early break up time, so no whales. My first whale encounter was only nine years a go when I moved to South Africa.
Thanks Serendip…I’ve never been to St Anthony yet…but someday!
