The tiny island of Inishkeel is accessible only by foot from Naran, County Donegal, over a gorgeous sandy beach revealed by low tide. St Conal founded a monastery here in 596 AD; what remains are two churches (possibly 12th Century), cross slabs, grave slabs and “St Conal Bed” which is the rock perched on the hillside toward the center of the photo. The island was a place of pilgrimage when the spring tides permitted access by foot.
