The white marble and blue quartzite walls of Dunlewy Church are set against Mt Errigal, the tallest in Donegal. Jane Smith Russell had the church built in 1848 as a memorial to her husband James, whose remains lay under the church floor. The fog obscured the cone peak of Mt Errigal on the day I visited, adding to the mystery of this ruin that is said to be haunted. The stone for the church walls was quarried just a few hundred yards away.
