First of all I’m impressed that you totally cleaned out your portfolio and chose to only post works that follow what I see as a regenerated style… whether these works are new or past, they are deeply engaging and thought provoking as they are visually stunning.

This in particular, I’ve looked at it a long time trying to imagine whether you created it from its title, or titled it from its creation. Maps of the World. Exactly. Barren desert patched with sandy lakes. Thick forest bordered by lush grassland. Rivers flowing down mountain terrain out to oceans and seas through which we can see the topography rising to islands… it’s all there.
But more importantly, though the terrains are naturally random and without form, your maps are cut distinctly to neat rectangular sections … and the sections overlap in an incongruous way that reminds me how boundaries are often formed politically in a way that goes against the natural boundaries of their populations.
Whether or not this was the thought behind your creativity, it drew me in and made me think… and what started off in my perception as a beautifully colored and composed abstract slowly took on a global theme as I watched all the elements come together so gracefully.

This for me is what great art does. It doesn’t happen in a glance… something catches your eye and ignites the process through which we infuse it with our own perceptions and it begins to make sense. If it’s captivating enough it takes you through to fulfillment.
That’s what this did for me Deb.
This is creativity at its very best.

  • I am so impressed with your comment on this piece. I am moving in a different direction with abstract art as a tool for the mind to enter wherever it wants to go and the fusion of images that can be made in ones mind. I let the piece be who it wants to be for a little while and then step in further for my thought of what I want it to be.
