An alligator is a crocodilian in the genus Alligator of the family Alligatoridae. There are two living alligator species: the American alligator and the Chinese alligator. In addition, several extinct species of alligator are known from fossil remains. Alligators first appeared during the Oligocene epoch about 37 million years ago. The name alligator is an anglicized form of el lagarto, the Spanish term for “lizard”, which early Spanish explorers and settlers in Florida called the alligator.

OMG………………..how close did you get to this ugly creature…………………………mind you, I had a close encounter with someone rather unpleasant this evening………………….I think on balance I would prefer the company of this …………………..still waiting for the snow which is covering half of the country preventing my lovely son from driving over the mountain to see his mum……………………..at least I have you my little Aussie friend………………………….a good dentist would not go amiss with this fellow……………………………haha………………………………stay warm and have lots of dips in the sea……………………….avoiding the above of course……………………do you have them in the sea??…………………………….cheers Joyce

  • well my lens got pretty close joyce, but i stayed behind the fence :) there are plenty of saltwater crocs up in north qld and darwin. they swim in and out of the estuaries … fortunately none down in sydney haha. thanks heaps joyce and sorry to hear about your encounter, hope u gave it to them !
