I answered a Craigslist Ad for a photographer and received the below response:
“The Occasion will last for three days, A Family Reunion.
Captures includes : Groups of Families, groups of grand children,Groups of Family friends,individual portraits, editorial style candid photos…etc, Final Media will be on Prints and on Disk.
Duration : Maximum of 8 hours shoot per day. The number of family and friends that will be coming for the event will be ranging about a minimum of 250 peoples”
They are looking for Quote and Prices. I have NO CLUE where to even start with something like this.
If anybody has ANY kind of suggestions on this, I would be forever grateful!

Where is the location? Will you need to travel?
For the shooting time I will charge minimum $50/hour. Then I think you should set up some time to edit several thousand photos. Make a time estimate for the editing job and charge for it too. The next question is whether they want you to provide the prints or they will be happy just to have the jpg files.
This event is bigger than a wedding-type of shooting, so you must have spare everything and an assistant photographer as well.

Hello Miron, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! This event is in Kansas, Yes, they are covering travel an hotel. They do want prints and CD’s, and I just e:mailed them about what type of prints (albums, sizes, quantities, quality, etc.). I will bring my husband to assist, so, hopefully will work out well.

Is your husband a photographer too? You will need 2 shooters (each one with a good camera and good flash) to cover such a huge event – typically one for more formal portraits and the second for candids.

No, unfortunately he is not, but he is a great assistant. I’ll figure something out though, maybe even put an ad on Craigslist myself……

you will need two photogs, but also two assistants, esp on the formal stuff, plus a timetable for the formal shots (Mrs Brown @ 10:30, Mr Brown @10:35 Etc)
you should also offer books, Blurb or the like as an option and make sure that it is clear from the start you will be charging edit time on those too, so if the book costs 25:00, then double that for the finished articel, and with Blurb you have the option of setting a mark up, to cover that, should they want extra copies
and when it’s all over we all want a holiday in Barbados from the huge profits you are gonna make :-)

Getting a 2nd photographer via Craig’s is risky and complicated. I could help you, if it’s OK with you and if I’m available on the required dates. And many other if’s of course. Of course, I’m risky too :)
