CG4 Covent Garden Beer Festival, London, 1975. by

First CAMRA National Beer Festival – Covent Garden September 1975, a 4 day event that attracted 40,000 people who drank 150,000 pints of real ale.
These shots were made at a weekday lunchtime session, and were taken using High Speed Ektachrome film in an Olympus OM1.
No technical or artistic masterpieces, ….just a record of times gone by!

People tell me I should take pictures which sell, but I feel I would be selling my soul. Instead I keep on taking the pictures which I enjoy taking. I will probably never get rich from photography, or even make a decent living from it, but at least I will have left authentic images which might just be of of interest to someone after I have gone!

Those were the days – I managed to get to the Ally Pally beer festival in 1979 – not that I remember much about it!!

  • I went to a couple at Ally Pally before the fire, but I waited too long before taking pics, consequently the quality is not good enough. Covent Gdn. was during my lunch break, so couldn’t overdo it, although I do remember having a kip in the darkroom in the afternoon!
