"A Helping Hand", Covent Garden Market, London, 1973. by

Covent Garden was the most important fruit & vegetable Market in the UK until 1973, when it was forced to move to larger premises in Vauxhall due to increasing traffic congestion.
It is now a famous tourist attraction and the former Market halls have been saved.

This capture was made on a cold November morning during the last week of operation. It was made on “High Speed Ektachrome” which was pushed a stop or two, hence the excessive grain. The camera used was an Olympus OM1.

People tell me I should take pictures which sell, but I feel I would be selling my soul. Instead I keep on taking the pictures which I enjoy taking. I will probably never get rich from photography, or even make a decent living from it, but at least I will have left authentic images which might just be of of interest to someone after I have gone!
