Artist's Description

Covent Garden was the most important fruit & vegetable Market in the UK until 1973, when it was forced to move to larger premises in Vauxhall due to increasing traffic congestion.
It is now a famous tourist attraction and the former Market halls have been saved.

This capture was made on a cold November morning during the last week of operation. It was made on “High Speed Ektachrome” which was pushed a stop or two, hence the excessive grain. The camera used was an Olympus OM1.
The Man pulling the Barrow is GEORGE FRANCIS he left the ‘Garden’ to begin a career in Professional Boxing as a Trainer – He became a Trainer of Champions – John Conteh – Frank Bruno and many others.
