Just Saying... by deb cole

Posted on November 03, 2011

I’ve noticed a lot lately, that some of my works are being rejected by some groups. I have looked over these pictures and their related information and was stumped. I could not find any reason why they would have been rejected in the first place. The pictures were clear and of the best quality, the location was included, the name, make and model of my camera and lens, my driver’s license and social insurance number were included, as well as a locket from my grandmother. I don’t understand…maybe it’s because of this strange new format which informs us that we must “click here for full details” ?When I upload a picture, it is certain that I will include all the information as well as a secondary photo or two. Most of this is missed any way and I would just like to add… VIEW THE FULL DETAILS because you are definitely missing out.Just saying

You tell them Dab. The new format makes a lot of work for all of us hosts as we have to really search at times for the required details and it’s time consuming. However sometimes artists do miss the most obvious things like in one of our groups we need location (place and province) and even our best artists slip and miss it on occasion. So drop a gentle note to these hosts and ask why? They’ll let you know if it’s you or them. That’s my experience :>)) Leslie

Shhesh that should be Deb. Forgive too fast fingers to agree with you. LOL

  • deb cole:

Lol!! I’ve never been called Dab before! I’m really disappointed with the new style of things. It’s not complimentary to the artist at all. I always spent mounds of time on each “project” and now, I wonder if I should bother at all. I know of at least one person that clicks on the “view full details” button. It would be great if everyone else tried it occasionally! :o))

    Hiya Dab!

Like Leslie says – it may be because the hosts don’t bother to click on the “view details” gizmo. I know that a lot of folks, you and me included, put all kinds of info with our submissions, maybe too much in my case! What I might do is check the group messages and see if they’ve changed their rules. Some groups now want all the info at the top of the description page so they don’t have to scroll down and have stated they will reject any works that don’t comply. A bit petty in my opinion because how much extra time is used up looking at the full image and doing the wee click for more info, then going back to the thumbnail and “reject with reason” button?

    Mike.

  • deb cole:

You know me Mike! I always include all the pertinent info. And secondary images, too. But if nobody even bothers to look, why do I include them?? It’s a lot of work to make your image enjoyable in a visual and literal sense. I try to take the picture book ideal out of each uploaded work by adding “words”. Maybe I need to stick to “picture book” with a few basic big words to appease certain people? All it takes, as Mike says, is a “wee click”. Sheesh

It can be an exercise in frustration, but I find it’s worth it when someone does read all your info and does check out your secondary images. Hence my frequent long ramblings and accompanying images. :o) As you say, it’s a lot of work, but I enjoy it! And I find other folk’s “sidebars” very interesting, too, That’s why I always click on the “more info” thingie, even if it’s only the bottom of another pic that comes into view. Takes a second to see if there’s more info and a bit longer if it’s an interesting read. Well worth that little extra time.

Well worth it and often-times educational, too. Who doesn’t like to learn something new?

Well there’s three of us that think the same way. The read is worthy So now how do we convince the rest of everyone? Myself I love you work Deb And Mike. Reads are good and make it easier to give good comments.

  • deb cole:

I think the only way is, as Mike says, we all have to put the info at the top of the page, rather than at the bottom. If the viewer wishes to look at the secondary images, they will just have to click the “view full” button. And most of the time, the secondary images are awesome!!.
Word of mouth, my friends! ;o)

Oh how I want to comment on this but will be here all day! LOL But will tell one story, happened a few days ago! With all the rules its so hard to keep up! I was adding to a group and I checked to see when was the last time I added a photo. It came up that 8 photos were sitting in the que waiting approval in a span of 23 days. I had a friend that posted 3 photos within those 23 days and they were accepted..so I sent a little note asking if I am doing something wrong and I can remove them if its not up to their expectations. Well lol here is the response

    Hello Keith

There is a lot of work involved with moderation of certain groups. All moderators are volunteers, working for free in their free time. Moderators are regular people with families, jobs and other responsibilities outside of Red Bubble.

Hope this explanation will help you understand why your works have to wait to be approved for the group.

Your membership in the group is voluntary and you can leave when you please if this group doesn’t meet your expectations. Leaving the group automatically removes all your photos from the group and also those waiting for moderation.

    Cheers!

I took the groups name out of the bubble mail..
Now I understand there is alot of work running a group..but why have a group if you are going to let 8 photos over a span of 23days sit in the que! If you have another life then go live it! We as posters keep your group going and you don’t have the time! Like you Deb I went over and over the photos and couldn’t find anything wrong..I could understand the groups reply..but other works were posted to the group within those 23 days..boggles the mind..They set up a group and then don’t work it!!! shouldn’t be allowed..Redbubble is all about promoting your work and the groups are there to help!!! I donate all the monies made from my sales to Breast Cancer and Diabetes foundations..as stated in my profile..thats my way of giving back! So I promote my work!

PS: I love the comment about driver’s license, and social insurance, and the locket..its so true LMAO (do you need a DNA sample also) ;;;;))))

  • deb cole:

Now, that is wrong and somewhat disturbing on many levels, Keith. That sort of action is not called for, in my opinion. I get the impression that someone has risen to a more superior level, bearing the title of moderator.
Everyone on this site is a volunteer, working for free in their free time!!! And every person on this site are regular people with families, jobs, responsibilities, etc. Not just the “moderators”.
I like to call myself a group “host”. I am helping the artist display their work and I am not a judge of their work, by any means.
I would reply to that note with something like, No…in fact your explanation has only left me more confused and I would like for you to elaborate on your reasons for queuing my work for 23 days.
