Dovercourt Lighthouse

Dan Biggins

Dovercourt Lighthouse

Over Christmas I decided to take a break from sitting around in front of the TV and stuffing my face with chocolate / nuts / dates etc, and ventured down to the seafront at Dovercourt, Essex to try and capture one of the lighthouses there. It was cold – the windchill meant the temperature was hovering around the -2 mark. Oh, how I envy our Antipodean cousins…!

1 shot HDR processed in Photomatix Pro, 20 sec shutter, 14mm, f22, ISO 100, ND8 neutral and ND4 grad filters. And a warm scarf.

The two Dovercourt lighthouses are the most prominent features of the seafront. Erected by Trinity House in 1863, they were used until 1917, guiding ships around Landguard Point with their powerful gas lamps.

You did a great job! It was worthwhile the sacrifice! :) The picture is very beautiful and I love the way it leads the eye to the lighthouse. Cheers!

Hey mate – nice shot – Stuffin myself with chocolate sounds much better tho!!

  • Dan Biggins replied

Cheers mate – it was a choice of continuing to stuff myself and explode, or get some air…it was a close run thing though…!

I like the touch of green in this shot. Lovely work. Looks like an interesting place.

  • Dan Biggins replied

Thanks Linda – I went there for the sunset, not realising the sunset would be pretty much directly behind me (geography never was my strong point…!), but I liked the textures of the rocks and seaweed.

Great line and lovely colours Dan. The grass is always greener…..... Think of us sitting in front of the airconditioners for a bit of relief coz it’s just too hot to go outside!

  • Dan Biggins replied

Thanks amko…very true, but I’d at least like the option of staying indoors because it’s too hot, instead of knowing that it’s going to be freezing when I do venture outside…!

Cheers for your comment, much appreciated. :)
