Wicca
By Darren Bailey LRPS

When witchcraft is practised as a religion, it is called by the Old English term for witch, Wicca. This term is used to counter all the negative stereotypes that society has given witchcraft. Wicca is primarily a religion that worships nature, and sees all creation as sacred. In fact, all Wiccan holy days follow the cycles of nature and the changes in the seasons. Wicca also worships both a male and female deity, a female Goddess and a male God, who had together created the world and everything in it.

Spells are used by Wiccans, and are a series of rituals and prayers that are conducted in witchcraft to ask for divine help in a certain aspect of life. All spells must adhere to the Wiccan Rede, the witchcraft code of conduct.

The Wiccan Rules (Rede)

The Wiccan Rede is the rule of conduct that all witches must follow while practising witchcraft. It rules that a witch may engage in any action, as long as it is carefully considered, and their actions harm nobody, including themselves. Witchcraft is ruled by the Threefold Law, which is the belief that any action taken by any witch that affects another person, will come back to the witch threefold, whether it be harm or good.

The words of the spell :-

Fire fire burning bright
Turn my darkness into light
Take away my bad luck ill
Bring me nothing but good will
Bad luck came and stayed too long
Be gone forever be gone be gone
With this fire burning bright
Bring me good luck bring me light
So mote it be.

The creation of the spell scrolls

These actually took days to make I needed to create a few different ones with different designs to them as I was unsure what would look best when shoot.
The designs were printed out and then a large amount of tea was drunk to supply the tea bags that I used to age the paper once this was done and the paper was dry I then set about burning the edges away trying desperately not to completely set fire to either the scroll , me or anything else for that matter! I then used fake blood to create a more sombre element and used a Pentacle as a stamp to create the Pagan/Wiccan symbol.

I am a Photographer and Photographic artist based in Surrey in the UK my inspirations can and do come from anywhere from 17th century artists such as Cotan to other members of the Redbubble community.
