Daring to be Different by

A Graphite Drawing of the 3 original Daring Class Destroyers, HMA Ships Voyager (D04), Vendetta (D08) & Vampire (D11) served the Royal Australian Navy between 1957 and 1985.
The Voyager was trajically sunk on 10 February 1964 following a collision with the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne. 14 officers, 67 sailors and 1 civilian dockyard worker were killed.
HMAS Dutchess (D154 – not illustrated) was loaned from the Royal Navy in 1964 as a temporary replacement for Voyager. The destroyer was purchased outright by Australia in 1972, converted into a training ship over the next two years, and continued to operate with the RAN until 1977.
Vampire has been preserved as museum ship and forms part of the collection of the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
