Cally's Getting a Cold Bum by

One of the feral and semi-feral cats on the property, Cally a “talico” or “Patched Tabby”) is deciding between trying to catch a bird (might and might not) and eating peanut butter off the ladder (usually plentiful and it doesn’t fly away). Very few birds are caught, and I’ve noticed that none of the cats can catch the mole that sits under the ladder in his little molehill waiting for bread. He’s especially fond of rye bread. when he smells ryebread, if the ground isn’t too frozen, he will burrow and stir around so that he makes a little tiny tunnel right under the piece of bread he’s selected so that it tumbles down the hole and into his waiting arms.
It looks like we can’t say “no” to any creature that comes around looking for handouts.
Cally eventually decided to go for the peanutbutter; it was a sure thing!

UPDATE 11 June 2011
Callie was chased by her mother into the woods on the other side of our road. She’s never come back, but I’ve seen her in a field 2 doors down.
She’s a beauty, but never would tame.

Cally is sooo huggable! what an adorable kitty! : D

  • She is, and I wish she weren’t so shy. She’s part of the feral bunch on our property. This year they’re all getting ‘fixed’. Callie’s so fluffy I just want to pick her up and kiss her tummy. Don’t see her letting me do that any time soon!

    hehehehe sweet:)

  • She’s pretty good and caught about 3 birds last Fall, but the birds wised-up and they look for lumps on the ladder now. LoL- the cats all get fed well, so she gives up pretty easily. Now it’s the squirrel couple that raid the bird food and hang out on the ladder.

    Oh poort kitty. wonderful capture.

  • Yes, I hope she tames up this summer. I’ve got backing to pay half the fee for fixing all the strays around here. Hope to get the tom from down the street in the pack! Lol, won’t his parents be surprised!

Iam gld that you takle care of teh creatures. Aren’;t moles cute? I love animals. I love all of them, I especially love ducks and swans and turtles and cats and horses

  • You’re a sweet heart, Angela. I would guess that if you had a chance, animals wouldn’t be very shy with you, either.

Ah! A calico in the snow! They are always nutty beasts. We had one next door, Polly, but she never would make friends – due to the madness of this breed!
    Beautiful puddy portrait.

  • Calicoes are a ‘bubble off’ normal. I’ve had some sweet ones. One really silly one who would sit on the book shelf with her tail hanging out the back. She’d spot it there underneath her bum and grab for it, but it would be just ahead of her and pull back. She never realized, or didn’t care, that when she leaned her head down, her bum and tail would raise up. Never caught that darned thing! LoL
