My grandmother gave me this. Although I’ve been down to the clothes on my back, I’ve always kept this wonderful gift.

To the left is a macro photo, taken with a macro camera and unretouched.
Below is an abstract done from this pic using whizical, Kaleider and more.

Absolutely glorious. My favourite Gem is an Opal, Wonderful colours and fantastic macrp imagery. hugs

  • Mine is, too. There’s a spectaular stone found, I believe, in Arizona called a fire agate. A good fire agate is only one tiny hair less beautiful than a black opal. ;0)

My birthstone is the Opal and I love this capture of your grandmother’s beautiful Australian Black Opal. Be blessed always:)

  • So’s my birthstone, the astrological. Otherwise it’s a rose zircon, pretty, but I don’t have any use for one. Marie, Ihave been soooo blessed, and I can only with belessings as wonderful for you! -=D

Opals are just beautiful and a favourite of mine too Dayonda…..especially black opals. The more red in them the better too. You have a very good opal there with lots of colour. Do different colours ‘flash’ as you turn it?

  • Oh, do they!. Grandmother had an eye for beauty. I have to get some 1200-grit polishing compound and go over it— I just saw the scratches for the first time with the macro camera.

Dayonda, as a jeweler, I would not even expect to see any “part of my job” here.. AMG.. !!!!
Can’t I get them away from them ???? (J/K-just kiddin)

Nice colors.. Black Opal is one of my favorites…
If you like diamonds; see the page but scroll it down please cause you will see the greatest diamonds of the world there.. The page belongs to someone called : Rage Manchoo

And if you like colorful gemstones (sapphire, ruby and many other rather than diamond )there s the other link :

And an ancient work with OPAL called :Opal Peacock Brooch – Smithsonian Museum’s collection

    Enjoy …
“LAst Time I touched to business” !!!! :)
    Take CAre

  • Oh, cool !!! I will certainly visit the colored stones page.
The Smithsonian— yes, I love ‘going’ there.

As far as I’m concerned, you can talk business we me if you want to. I love gems and stones all my life. I’m a “rockhound”, and have piced up tons of “leaverite”— meaning: It’s junk— “leave ’er right where you found ’er.”

    I may yet take a genology course— =0) -=Dayonda

D….opals are very soft and do scratch quite easily.

  • Yes, I’ve worked with them quite a lot. I love working with them, but the temperature has to be held quite low, rpm has to be due to heat of friction, and it has to be worked with a NEW muslin wheel and 1200 grit for the first buff, 1600 for the final.
NOTE: these are not instructions to work opals, so don’t mess with one, anybody, and if somebody does this and messes up their opal, I’m not responsible!

I love the colours in this! Very pretty!

  • My grandmother usually picked the best of anything she chose to get. She also picked the best grandfather in the world, too! LOL!
