*PALM SPRINGS (CA) NIGHTS*

FROM THE OLD DESERT RAT:

Back when I was a kid,
just the scent of the
blooming citrus
would make
you drunk.

Back when I was a kid,
Palm Springs was
always moving.
Sand blew
all over.

The wind blew twice a
year in Palm Springs,
six months south,
then six north.

We lived with granparents,
my family and I, when I
was a kid down in
my desert.

That part of my life was
what made me love
wind-whipped
palm trees.

That sound meant I was
safe, loved, sleeping in
in a dresser drawer
when I was tiny.

And sleeping beside my
grandmother when I
was a young girl,
I was safe.

I was safe.

A fractal from the 1960s made in a nifty little program that I can’t remember the name of—If you look at it closely, it’s just a bunch of little pictures. Back off from it and you’ll see the whole picture- the palm tree.

This is not my photo, it’s a clip-art item that came with one of my art programs. However, I’m the one that did the crazy-quilt optical thing with it. -=DS
