A familiar sight to me, living in Florida. I am in Gainesville, home of the University of Florida Gators, and never was a college mascot chosen so appropriately. The town of Gainesville and the university campus itself are filled with lakes, streams, and rivers that are home to countless alligators, and there is a 26,000 acre prairie reserve right at the edge of UF that has more gators than I could ever likely imagine. Contrary to popular belief, they are really pretty docile (although you wouldn’t catch me in the water with one; I’m not afraid of them, but I’m also not stupid enough to test my luck). I have gotten to within just a couple of feet from some quite large gators on land, and the worst they’ve done is turned and splashed back in the water. Sorry, I will stop rambling now… :) This is a great capture, and gave me a smile. I think I’m inspired now to upload some of my own gator shots.
