By the lake am I,
I cannot see it
for the hour is late,
but I can smell the freshness
and I can hear the water
lap gently to the bank.
The rush of the willow beside me
speaks, in hushed whispers.
Soon I will see,
see the lake.
I hold my legs as I sit,
upon my blanket spread
with my chin rested upon my knees,
I come here often to see the magic.
I watch for the moon.
The breeze coming in from the south
and pushes the cloud from shrouding the moon,
I anticipate the view.
And all of a sudden
she shines down,
down upon her lake
and for a short while
I see,
I see the vastness spilling out before me,
illuminated by moon light,
in silver and white,
magical and enchanting,
but cold and deadly.
By the lake am I,
watching liquid silver ripple,
until,
until the night breeze
once again
brings the clouds,
over my moon.
