I finished a small painting in oils this week. It’s the first time I’ve painted in oils since I’ve had a class in it in school. I’ve never really liked the slow drying time so I didn’t continue with it. Watercolors were more my style. Recently, a friend told me about a type of oils that are faster drying and clean up with water. So I tried them.

Oils can always be thinned with different mediums, and sometimes these mediums can have drying agents that shorten the time for drying. Also oils can be used in many different ways….thick impasto….thin glazes… . We all have to explore what suits us best for the effect we want. Glaze mediums can give lovely rich lustrous effects….Rembrandt was an early master of this technique! Good luck with whatever you prefer!
