Artist's Description

Canon 60D – Tamoron 60mm 1:1 macro
The gum leaf skeletoniser gets its common name from the way in which it feeds on gum leaves – by completely consuming the surface of the leaf and leaving only a skeleton of veins behind. The caterpillars are covered by very fine delicate long white hairs and spines which are capable of causing urtication (rash or irritation). Skin contact with the live caterpillars often results in a sharp stinging sensation, followed by a persistent itchy skin rash. The object on its head, almost looking like a hat is from when the caterpillar sheds its skin.
