The Rust Bucket
The Duke of Lancaster during her last season in Sealink service. Capt Evans’ views of the ‘Dukes’ are echoed by Capt John Bakewell. “I was in command of the Duke of Lancaster for only a few weeks when she was loaned to us in Holyhead. Backing out of Holyhead was fine as she steered beautifully with her bow rudder. However when proceeding ahead she was terrible to steer. The rudder didn’t look much bigger than a dinner plate!! Sailing into Holyhead, one had to put the rudder hard over somewhere by the North Stack in order to get her round the breakwater!! Then getting her into the Inner Harbour caused many a grey hair!!”
I think he must have crashed into the rocks as it’s been here since.

Stunning Photo with gorgeous colours & tones. The mackeral sky really does finish it off… But if I may say so, I personally think the photo would be better without blurry edges…
davidShandley replied
Hi David, Thanks for your comment, I thought I would use some new filters whilst
HDR’ing this in Dynamic Photo, I like a more natural shot but just wanted to see what others said. You can see that I have had some above.

Hi Dave, what a crazy shot the clouds and the water all ripples. I almost looks like you zoomed the lens while shooting the image. the colors and the composition are great!
davidShandley replied
No zooming took place Patrick, it was all there to capture, but the HDR treatment pulled it out, thank you

Quite the nice shot here, David. I like the way the clouds and the ripples in the water are pretty much aligned. Perhaps a bit too much HDR for me, but still an outstanding image! Not to mention hearing of Holyhead was good for my soul. I have been there on at least two different trips to Wales and it was an easy area for me to fall in love with. Indeed, all of Anglsey. I loved tromping around the hills and cliffs and castles of the area learning the history, taking photos, meeting the locals and praying. Fond memories! Thanks, Randy (Randall for your Brits!)
davidShandley replied
Hi Randy, Thank you for your honest comments, I have just returned from a weekend in North Wales this weekend and hope you like what I will upload this week.

I like this shot. There is something quite eerie about old boats. The water and sky are well exposed and make the picture.
davidShandley replied
Cheers for the comments, It was a great boat in its day also
