Land of the Free by DavidsArt

I hate how so many of our personal freedoms are gradually eroded for no apparently good reason. Of course society needs rules but so many of these seem to be imposed without any apparent reason and without explanation or justification. Followed up with the “right” to then penalise people for not following the rule just adds further irritation. I had better leave it there because I can become a right bore on this subject sometimes.

All of these “NO” signs were photographed in one 30 minute walk one afternoon.

I started taking photography seriously in 2008 when I purchased my first DSLR. I have since moved on to a D700 and I am loving it. I love landscapes but also enjoy taking images of just about anything that moves and a few things that don’t, I think that its just fantastic to be able to capture and share the incredible sights there are in this world. Take a look at what I have and please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

And so say all of us! We recently went to a small country dam and counted 25 signs in the space of about an acre. So much for the fun police! At Rottnest island there is an idiotic warning sign on one beach that says “walk in feet first”! You have to smile…

  • Hi Kate, thanks for your comments. Unfortunately I think there is a growing problem here that society is just accepting without really thinking about it. I have never been an anarchist or participated in protests and that sort of thing even in the 60s & 70s when that sort of thing was fashionable, but I seriously believe that our freedoms are slowly being eroded not by politicians or any grand scheme but by petty local bureaucrats simply trying to justify their existence. At the end of the day, every rule or law should be for the betterment of man kind, to enhance his/her enjoyment life. How many of these sign’s truly do that ? Major soapbox alarm, better go now, thanks for your comments anyway.

wow – unbelievable all in 30 minute walk – yes it is sad – but sadder that some people have no courtesy or common sense and these signs are necessary for those type people. if everyone would consider everyone else’s rights and what is best for the environment or for the earth in general – alot of these signs would not be necessary.

  • Hi Jane, It might have been 35 mins but yeah pretty incredible. What you say is true and we all know that society needs rules but I seem to be seeing more and more that are just petty and trivial.
