“Fire in my Heart”

The wind rolled in that day so so long ago.
A stark and nasty freezing wind that took your life away.
A wind so cruel life’s never been the same
for me again.
I watched as it stole my life and gave me cause to weep.
And here I was a wee small thing wrapped in your cotton coat.
The winds came in from who knows where.
A thing so cold it quickly froze the earth on that lonesome day.
Here we were you and I laughing as it chilled the autumn air.
Not cold enough to cause alarm.
But soon that all would change.
Far from home were you and I walking through a field of gold.
I look at you lying there and feel the pain as if it was yesterday.
The sky turned grey and winds swept up and threw the earth around.
The clouds grew black and took my heart on that lonesome day.
I yelled out loud hoping you would hear my nervous cry.
But winds so strong took my voice and cast it far away.
And then you reached out to me as if you knew my needs.
Come close my child and cry no more my mother said to me.
You wrapped me in your soft warm arms and held me close to you.
And i so young did suckle in and smell your lovely skin.
And comfort me from the wind as it screamed and hollered.
I hid my face deep in the dark next to your strong heart.
And felt its beat a steady sound to ease my troubled mind.
And as I felt the mighty wind dig deeply in on us.
I felt a chill come from my mom as she comfort me.
We huddled close to fight the wind a thing with no remorse.
My loving mom gave all she had to warm my wee small body.
I felt a tear fall down on me as she held me close.
And come the night they found us both lying on the earth.
My loving mom gave her all for me that cruel and hateful day.
And as I look down on you, a thing so beautiful.
The pain comes rushing back to me as if it were just yesterday.
And like the fire in your soul my heart burns on for her.
