This flower is beyond words beautiful. Totally mesmerising. I have never seen such a red before! I want to give the poem some time, and I have to go out for a while, so I will tell you what I think later. A very, very powerful image, David. Agnes:)))

This is a very powerful, very haunting piece of writing, David. The contrasts work so well – between home and desert, between tender feelings and despair, between the ideals and the reality. And the repetition of each new day makes it all the bleaker. How may young lives have been wasted in war, and I do not mean just those who died. Agnes:)))

I’m glad you repeated that line. It ticks like a metronome. And the last line makes it so personal. I didn’t go to a party, I went late night shopping, and they had their own piped music. LOL. I like the idea of the soldier caught up in some battle of huge proportions….and not of his making…...and his immediate problem is the very smallest thing…..fleas. Such a great depiction of the general human state…...all mixed up :)
