A wave shot on a morning with smoke in the air from California fires from 2007. This wave had the sun behind the camera rather to the side creating a more pastel color tone to the wave.

These images are compulsive viewing! Absolutely fabulous work. I’ve been sharing your work with some of my surf shooting students…..we just stand there gobsmacked….lol. Then we try to reverse engineer what you’ve done….none have come close, as yet….mind you, none have the 600mm lens nor the 1.4TC….meanwhile, we’ll just keep watching and learning :)

I apologize for not responding sooner. You don’t need a 600 mm lens if one is shooting with the smaller sensor of a Canon 40D for example. Also, the tide is a player in the composition. If it is high tide, the 600 is too close at some of the shorelines I shoot.

Thanks for that info, David, I’ll make sure to add it to my knowledge bank. I shoot full frame, but rarely have any of my students had one, most don’t have anything but kit lenses either…..but your work gives them a great deal of inspiration to start amassing more knowledge, and eventually, good quality lenses :)
