First off, that is not me on the surfboard in my profile picture. I have never set foot on a surfboard in my life…....
I have no formal education pertaining to art, design or photography. I developed my skills and style through experimentation, studying other photographers and looking at photography on the internet. My photography developed more as an accident than some grand plan. As a “child of the digital age”, I don’t spend my time in a darkroom with chemicals, but rather in a dark room in front of a computer monitor. I am not a Photoshop wizard, but process my digital images with basic controls as color balance, contrast, saturation adjustments, dodging, burning and cropping. I am only recently beginning to understand layers.
The bold colors and “painterly feel” in many of my wave photographs are mostly the result of my shooting preference of early morning light, camera motion and slow shutter speed exposures which contrasts to the more typical front lit photos with fast shutter speeds to freeze motion that is seen in many surfing photographs.
