A simple shot, just before darkness, looking over the Klondike gold rush terrain where some men found their dreams but many others failed.

I took this shot from The Dome, the lookout point above Dawson City in the Yukon, Canada, in late August 2008.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K200D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F6.7, 1/125 sec, ISO 400, focal length 300mm.

    Wonderful colors David!

  • Funny thing is, when we first got up there, it was a range of golden tones across the sky!

Beautiful layers of land, mountain and sky! It gives the landscape an abstract feel! Great composition and exposure!

  • Thanks so much, Joanne. We literally had a 360-degree view from up there on The Dome.

I really like these subtle colors and know they are real.

  • Thank you, Betty. The key word, for me at least, in that generous comment is ``real’’. Yes, the subtlety of those tones had me captivated as I stood there.

Beautiful David, the tones are magical, and I swear I can feel and smell that wonderful fresh air

  • They certainly were magical as I stood there, watching golden clouds disappear. But I waited, just in case the dusk brought interesting tones. By the time the subtle blues appeared on those hills, we were the only people left! Thanks for a great comment.

Lovely color and capture David…….very pretty lighting !!

  • It’s that magical country you live in, Sean – where the landscapes are so riveting and the light so appealing.

Nice one David! Haven’t seent this kind of work from you before (or maybe I just haven’t looked back far enough?)

  • Thanks, Di. Glad you like this one. There are quite a few landscapes in my Red Bubble portfolio, but as you know I am a city slicker. I do love the wide open spaces, which is why my second novel is set in Canada’s Muskoka region, famous for its lakes.
