If these figures evoke memories of wartime pilots, you’re absolutely right. The lifesize statues commemorate bomber pilots and air crew as well as their ground support crew, from the era of World War II.
The figures are only two-dimensional, yet they convey a powerful sense of a pilot, co-pilot and their crew. The artwork, by Neil Dawson, is called “Bomber Command” and stands in the Sculpture Garden, near the forecourt of Canberra’s War Museum.
