Christmas At The White House, Er, White Hotel by

Not, it’s not the white house, but it IS the most famous white building in Singapore – the Raffles Hotel, named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of the island-state.

From memory, that huge red bow would have definitely been almost four meters long – and I’d love to know how much it weighed.

What was really interesting to me, when I shot this image in December 2007, was the juxtaposition of traditional Christmas decorations and of course the tropical frangipani tree in the foreground!

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/350 sec, ISO 200, focal length 88mm.

This is a beauty, David! Very regal! I appreciate your description, so as to get an idea of its huge size!

  • Thank you very much, Pat – “regal” is exactly how I’d describe the Raffles Hotel. It is a magnificent example of Colonial-era architecture.

  • Thanks very much, NatureLover. I was about 12 when I first saw the Raffles Hotel, so this brief stopover was a chance to recall my childhood memories.
