Was I in an ancient palace? Was I in a museum? Was I in a federal parliament? Was I, perchance, in a ballroom?

I’d be delighted if you could post your guesses as comments. I will reveal the answer in the next 48 hours, if no one gets the answer right.

Solved in the blink of an eye by Betty Mackey, who got it right with her first guess.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/60 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm.

I have an advantage — I was there in August and took many photos. I was struck by the wonderful restoration and golden look.

  • We were there in the first week of July!

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis spearheaded the successful drive to save this amazing symbol of the gilded age from ruin and restore it.

  • I didn’t know that she played such a major role in its restoration.
