Lawrence Of Arabia, Is This Your Sand Dune? by David McMahon

Lawrence Of Arabia, Is This Your Sand Dune? by

No, it’s not a sand dune, as you can see – and it’s not taken in a desert location, either.

This was shot on a hot January day this year (2010) at Docklands, Melbourne. Along the boardwalk near the cafes there was a busy Sunday market and I paused to shoot the light and shade of this canvas awning against the clear blue sky.

One of the stallholders looked puzzled and asked me what on earth I could possibly see in the awning as a potential subject. So I grinned and showed him this image on my screen and he gave me a big thumbs-up!

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F11, 1/350 sec, ISO 200, focal length 58mm.

Wonderfully graphic and the colours are so vibrant. Especially since you do no editing at all. Loved the story of the thumbs up.

  • Thanks so much, Tarolino. The shapes and the colours were amazing, especially against that flawless summer sky.
