Nope, It's Not The Statue Of Liberty by

It was our first evening in Manhattan and we were in a hurry, on our way to take in a Broadway play. Our cab stopped at a set of lights and I happened to notice this person dressed as the Statue of Liberty – to the delight of the tourists milling around on the warm summer evening.

If you look really carefully, you’ll see the spikes of what I think is a spare crown in the lower right of this frame.

I shot this through the window of the taxi. I barely had time to shoot three frames, very rapidly, before the lights changed.

It was a few minutes before 7pm, so the light was not great – but I wasn’t going to pass up the chance of a shot.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/90 sec, ISO 400, focal length 125mm

Awesome capture David! One of my fave passtimes while in the car is shooting hile at a stoplight! I get it! This is a perfect example of why I love it so much! You just never know what you will see!

  • Very kind of you, Robin. I normally don’t get the opportunity as I’m always in the driver’s seat …. but this time I was in the back seat!

You are a sharp shooter David….You have done well to capture this on the move and through a car window….Fantastic work mate…

  • Very kind of you to say so, John. When I was in the Yukon in 2008, I got a lot of practice in shooting from an SUV travelling at 100km/h – from the passenger seat!

I think it is great!! Wonder why dressed this way???

  • I’m guessing so that tourists can take pictures alongside and (maybe) put some money in a jar by way of gratitude. Maybe we need a New Yorker to give us the answer ….
