I was looking for a “different” sunset shot last Sunday (22 August 2010).
Where I stood after parking my car would have given me traditional views of the setting sun across endless paddocks. But I decided instead to trek towards the power lines down the valley, to use the metal framework to my advantage.
I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F13, 1/1000 sec, ISO 200, focal length 300mm.

I like the way the sun is almost centered in a triangle…very arty farty ;) lol
Lucky I’m well over six foot, Di – otherwise this shot would have had a very different configuration. I was on tiptoe to get the sun exactly in that triangle!

It works very well and you are very clever to use it to your advantage David. I really like it!!
Thank you, Gail. I was lucky with the timing and with the position of that cloud on the horizon!

WOW Wonderfull Image!
Thanks, Naveen. Normally I’d avoid anything manmade, but this time I decided to use the structure to best advantage.

Yup, I stood on a wall (precariously balanced) to take the shot of the dinosaur!

Well done David….Thinking outside the square to take an outstanding shot and a beautiful sunset…
Really appreciate that, John. I was actually manoeuvring around the power lines when I thought nope, I’ll make the most of this metal structure!

Great capture. Very Unique. Brilliant Sunset.
Thanks so much, Jan. Lucky the colours were dramatic against the metal structure.

Great shapes and a fantastic sunset
Much appreciated, Shulie. I thought I’d embrace the ugly structure (metaphorically!!) rather than shun it ….

Wonderful capture, it’s a glorious golden evening!
Thank you, Sandra, that configuration worked out fairly well, with a little bit of luck!

Like an atomic burst. Which, I suppose, it is.
I never thought of that, Ranald. Very interesting simile.
