Is That REALLY Your Zeppelin, Grandpa? by

No, but it certainly looks like one, doesn’t it?

When I shot this roof structure in Long Island, I wanted more than just the exact geometry of its construction, which is why I included a tall indoor tree to break up the notion of controlled precision.

It’s interesting that most of the roof structure is a silhouette, but the sunlight casts a bronze-like glow on a couple of the metal struts.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F9.5, 1/250 sec, ISO 200, focal length 45mm.

Featured in CONTRASTING PERCEPTIONS, September 2010.

The tree is just the right addition to the geometrics. Great work!

  • Thank you, Betty – I’m glad you think so, because I really had to crane my neck to achieve this!

    This is a wonderful image!

  • Great to hear that, Steve – it was early to mid-afternoon and the pinnacle of the cupola just reminded me of a zeppelin, so I shot it that way!

You’re right of course. The trees take it from a traveler’s snapshot to something much more interesting.

  • That tree, I reckon, was placed there for me …. so lucky to be able to find it there!
