Solve This Puzzle: What Is This Mystery Object? by

Put on your thinking caps, have as many guesses as you want …. and most of all, have fun. Your time starts ….. NOW!

Spoiler alert: do not read any further unless you want the answer revealed.

Solved by Ellis Morley Photography, who correctly identified it (in only a few minutes) as a neon-lit wall inside Toys R Us at Times Square in New York. I shot this while on the escalator inside the store, hence the hand rail visible as a silhouette in the bottom right-hand corner.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/60 sec, ISO 200, focal length 18mm.

Or of course, nothing to do with NYC, your recent trip could be a red herring… I guess i should ask outright: is it in NYC?

  • No red herrings. Yes, it was shot in NYC, on our first day in Manhattan!

There’s a weird light display thingy inside the empire state building…. or there was 8 years ago…. one of those squares is NOT a light but a sign or screen of some sort.

  • Nothing to do with the Empire State building …..

  • YES, the diagonal thing is a banister. Not the Hard Rock Cafe, but this was shot only a stone’s throw away from the Hard Rock Cafe.

Really? TS area but not a restaurant (ie not the HRC) and obviously not the ESB as too far….

    Inside Toys R Us??

  • Not a restaurant. Jeepers – you’re brilliant. BINGO – this was inside Toys R Us! You win.
