Solve This Puzzle: What Is This Mystery Object? by

Put on your thinking caps, have as many guesses as you want, and most of all, have fun. Your time starts … NOW!

Spoiler alert: do not read any further, unless you want the answer.

Solved by UK-based Red Bubbler Ellis Morley Photography, who answered that it was a winch. I shot this on a grey, rainy afternoon in Whitehorse, Canada, on the deck of the historic old sternwheeler Klondike.

In case you think this has been post-processed to eliminate all the colour, it hasn’t!

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K200D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F8, 1/250 sec, ISO 400, focal length 300mm.

Featured in IF IT DOESN’T BELONG, June 2010.

Featured in CONTRASTING PERCEPTIONS, September 2010.

A recreation of a Da Vinci machine.
