The craftsmanship of this carved wooden sofa was so intricate that I had to ask the owner of the Singapore shop if I could take a shot of it.

The varnished wood was really offset by the dark background and the light colour of the cushion in the foreground.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F4.5, 1/30 sec, ISO 800, focal length 45mm.

I totally agree David !!! That part of the globe does have some superb craftsmanship where wood and furniture is concerned .

  • I was actually reminded of the classic Indian carving on wooden furniture …..

True .. you do get some absolutely great wooden furniture in India .

  • And even the replica vintage furniture I’ve seen there is amazing!

It IS beautifully carved, but as a middle-class person without servants, all I can see is the work involved in dusting it. lol

  • I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head, Leslie. The intricate carving dates back to days when people had domestic help! I like the way you think. By the way, a couple of people have received the novel – did your copy arrive?

Yes it is amazing … I know because I just indulged in some very recently :D

    @ Leslie

Having help does help !! :)

  • And Mumbai’s craftsman are famous for their work – did you buy it there?

Greetings David; a beautiful capture, interesting detail and form.

  • Thank you, Steve. The varnish just gave the wood a really interesting quality …. subtle light tones.

No David I went to Jodhpur , Rajasthan . Jodhpur is very famous for it furniture which is its main industry . Not only replica , but also genuine antiques . Will hunt for my pics from that trip . Had some unusual finds there :)

  • I’ve never been to Jodhpur … and even my last trip to India was VERY hurries, up north for about four or five days. Must find my way, too, to Rajasthan one day ….

Such intricate carving – great shot!

  • Thanks, Shulie. Lucky I was able to find an angle to include not only the light cushion but also the dark interior of the shop.
