No, it’s not a promotional gimmick for the new film “Date Night” starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell.

And if you’re wondering about the colour of those palm fronds, let me explain. It’s not a real tree, although the dimensions are absolutely realistic. I shot this on a street in Calcutta (Kolkata, as it’s now known) in October 2006.

During the Puja festive season, illuminations break new ground all the time. This was actually taken from the passenger seat of a car. How could you resist a shot of a creative LED set-up that looked just like pure 22-karat golden fronds?

Even the coconuts, which look so realistic, are man-made!

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/45 sec, ISO 800, focal length 38mm.

Looks like a blinding date !!!
22 karat ?? And I thought those were little light bulbs or even optic fibre !
    Well seen David :)

  • I was certainly blinded + dazzled! Yes, they are LED or fibre-optic. I’ve actually clarified it in the text. Glad you like this shot. India is such a visual paradise.

    Interesting shot David….Looks great….Nice lighting…

  • Thank you, John. Lucky the traffic was almost at a standstill, so I was able to get two shots. This was the second shot, and a slightly tighter frame than the first.

    great shot

  • Thanks, JustArt – I was lucky the traffic was crawling because of the festive season. The next day was a major Hindu festival, as well as a major Muslim festival.
