I shot this on a warm, breezy afternoon at The Rocks market in Sydney on Easter Saturday this year.

This woman walked past me and I noticed that the large red bag slung over her right shoulder was a perfect match for her red shawl, and a great contrast with the blue-grey top she was wearing.

I was going to shoot a tight vertical frame, capturing just the colours she was wearing. Then she walked past this large mural, so I swung my camera quickly to the right, changing the focal length and altering the composition so that I could catch the riotous colour that seemed to pop right out of the centre of my lens.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/350 sec, ISO 200, focal length 98mm.

An explotion of saturated colors! Well done.

  • Thanks, Duffboy – a lot of luck in this shot. The red she was wearing was a perfect match for the mural.

I thought it was a peacock from the thumbnail!! :) (not sure what kind of peacock that would have been…lol) Great capture… so bright and cheerful!

  • Thank you for your kind words, Jen – a peacock that ran through a paint factory! Maybe that’s the title I should have given this image!

lol…that would be a sight! a peacock running crazily through a paint factory! One of my son’s favorite stories (ok, and mine too) is The Spooky Tail of Prewitt Peacock and that story coupled with the paint factory gave me quite a laugh.

  • I’m off to check out the tale of Prewitt Peacock …. right now!

One of the free-roaming peacocks in Taronga Zoo, maybe?? :-)

  • THAT’s the answer – I knew you’d solve it, Ellis!

BTW Jen, it IS a peacock, lol… you can see the neck and eyes… the artist obviously sees the world in a VERY colourful way! :-)

  • You’re spot-on about the painting – and the artist’s vision.

    Gorgeous peacock colours!

  • It’s almost like the artist was celebrating an explosion of colour, Shulie.
